Kathleen Ingoldsby writes short stories and historical essays, drawing on her affection for rural Virginia life and characters. She began to study local history after moving to Floyd from Boston in 1980. Since then, she has documented historic and prehistoric soapstone sites in the area, completed an architectural survey of the town, and, for a year-long portrait, photographed county life for a video, The Legacy of Floyd County. She received the Mimi Babe Harris Art Award from Hollins University for her film project, Ma Sue Hall: Living the Legend.
