Floyd, Virginia is surrounded by a number of top notch golf courses. Almost all offer stunning views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. Three of the notable courses are Highland Course at Primland, the course at Great Oaks Country Club, and the Ellis Maples Golf Course at Olde Mill Golf Resort.

The Highland Course at Primland Resort is a unique, and very challenging, 18 hole course. The Highland course sits atop a Blue Ridge mountain plateau, at an elevation of almost 3,000 feet, overlooking some of the most beautiful scenery in America. It's the kind of location you'd expect to see out west, with extremely large greens, wide fairways, elevation gains, and, of course, stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

The Highland Course at Primland was designed by renowned golf course architect, Donald Steel. It is the only course designed by Steel that is open to the public in the U.S. The greens are Audubon-certified bentgrass. and each hole offers a unique view of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The course is consistently rated as one of the top courses in the country by major golf magazines. Par is 72. For more information, visit the Primland website.

Another excellent course in the Floyd area is located at Great Oaks Country Club. This 18-hole course can be enjoyed by golfers of every skill level. Great Oaks Country Club is located just off Blue Ridge Parkway and, as you might expect, has magnificent views of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains.

The Great Oaks Country Club course was designed by Gene Hamm. The front nine holes are typically wide open. The back nine are shorter and featrure large rolling greens. Par is 72. For more information, visit the Great Oaks Country Club website.

The Ellis Maples Golf Course at Olde Mill Golf Resort has a reputation as one of the best mountain golf courses it the eastern United States. It is made to be challenging for a varitey of skill levels. This is an 18-hole course, just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and a short distance from Groundhog Mountain.

The course was designed by Ellis Maples, and has been renovated by his son, Dan, and his grandson, Brad.
